Good News / Bad News

Good News / Bad News

The Start

So, I have a 2017 R1200GSA, with push button start..

Bad news – can’t find my keys

Good news – my bike still starts (so key is close)

Bad news – I think I locked my keyfob under the seat

Good news – BMW gives you a 2nd plastic key

Bad news – Not exactly sure where it is

Good news – I think it is in the touratech toolbox attached to the frame

Bad news – the only key I know of to open the touratech toolbox is on the keyfob locked under the seat…

Good news – I have a tile tracker on my keys

Bad news – it shows the keys about 5 miles away

Good news – I think the tracker is wrong (since I can start the bike)

Bad news – still can’t find keys 🙂

  • Anyone know how to get the seat off without key? 🙂

Continuing Next day…🙂

Bad news drove over to the restaurant that I went to last night to see if they had the key or I could find it.. nope.. not on the ground, and not turned in..

Good news – I realized that I hadn’t used the plastic key last summer, when key fob battery died,  the key fob works by itself in the “magic spot”  so the plastic key probably isn’t in the locked toolbox…

Bad news -where the heck is it???? we moved last year and….

Good news – after digging in the garage I found the manual and ….. it had the plastic key…

Double good news – now I can open the seat…

Bad news…. key isn’t there…

Good news.. bike still starts… so it has to be somewhere.

Bad news .. took all the cases off in case it got left somewhere in one of the side cases.. still starts

Good news.. means it is still near the bike…

Bad news.. not anywhere obvious

Good news… finally found it….. It must have fallen off the bike somehow and got lodged into the rear tire between brake and tire… The key was in tact, but the battery cover is missing

Bad news….. tile is destroyed.. missing cover for battery for keyfob…

Good news the fob obviously still works.. the key to the toolbox was still attached..

Bad news – BMW doesn’t sell a battery cover for key fob.. It is ~ $500 for a new key

Good news – Ebay has after-market cases for BMW keys for $30.

So in the end, I have a fun story, learned a lesson, and it only cost me $30 and some time

I think this is the end of the good news /bad news story.. Hopefully you all got a little laugh..
