Chinook Pass June 17?
Author Last Post
Hey Dan,

This is a (probably brisk) street bike trip. I’m on an RTW and Rob’s on a Camhead R.

If there was dirt involved, I have to use my ADV-Lite Honda 500X. It doesn’t have the Rally Raid wheels/suspension upgrade, but does have their skid plate installed, as well as some other ADV do-dads... but about a third of the ponies under the hood, so not so brisk.

I’d have to swap the tyres to TKCs and pick my lines carefully for anything more than FS roads, but may be up for some sort of dusty backroad once they sew your ear back on.
That could be a lot of fun. Any gravel roads in your plans? I'm also thinking of parts of the WABDR later in the summer or early fall; have a friend who's excited about that.

I've reconstructive plastic surgery on my ear 15 July. Not sure how long that will take to heal. Hard to get a helmet on with stitches, bandages, etc. But I was able to teach so things are looking up.

A lot depends on how quickly I can heal.
Hey Dan,

We're planning a trip around the back side of Mt. St. Helens in August, with an overnight camp thrown in for good measure. Unemployment and Covid19 permitting. It would be great to have you along.
Nice photo, Eric,

I was busy getting a squamous cell tumor sliced off my ear . . . I'll be in great shape to teach the ARC this weekend
Indeed 'twas beautiful for a day out on the beemers.
If there are others interested, we’re meeting at the Enumclaw Safeway gas station at 9:45 a.m. Thursday, 6/18. KSU at 10 a.m. for the ride over the pass. Pace likely to be somewhere on the spectrum from moderate to brisk.
Hi Rob,

I may be interested. Pencil me in.

If the planets align, we could meet at the Enumscratch Safeway gas station. I'll be coming from West Seattle, so the ass crack of dawn may be problematic. I'll send you an email to discuss.

I'm on a 2016 R1200RT, so if you leave me in the twisties, I'll try to catch up on the straightaways.
Rob, welcome to the Club! And thanks for posting your ride. Hopefully some folks will join you.

Won't be me, as I've some other commitments, but a nice weather ride over those passes will be gorgeous this time of year.

For everyone else: If you can make it, should be great fun.

Vr, Dan Muir

Howdy. I’m a brand new member, and this is my first post to the forum. I’m looking forward to meeting folks as things open up.

Speaking of opening, Chinook Pass is open for the season. I’m thinking of doing a loop over Hwy 410 To Hwy 12, then heading back on Hwy 7. Likely lunch stop is Whistlin’ Jack’s in Naches (they are open for takeout, with tables on the patio). The weather forecast for Wednesday, June 17 looks very encouraging.

Anyone up for a ride? I’ll be starting in Gig Harbor, but Enumclaw is a good meetup/fuel spot on the way. Drop me a note at rob.gronewold@gmail.com if you’re interested.

Cheers,

Rob

Due to another commitment I’m going to delay this ride until Thursday, June 18. Weather looks a little better on Thursday, too.

Rob
